20 NORTH AMERICA NEWS / APRIL 2017 , • Dr. Peter Kalal - an Electro- chemist with patents on batteries, fuel cells and biosensors • Dr. Barry Iseard - with 20-years of experience in battery research with patents on battery systems • Sonny Spoden - a CPA and former partner of Ernst & Young for 20 years • George Yang - who heads up Apollo’s operations in Shanghai, China The management team is dedicated to sharing its dream of a world free of air pollution and global warming, free of dependence on fossil fuels for energy. The new world will operate on a new kind of energy – energy from new types of batteries, fuel cells and other energy devices developed in AES’s laboratories and protected by patents. AES’s Products The Lead Cobalt Battery, First Generation, has been very successfully produced for electric cars since 1966 and can be used for electric vehicles and for stationary power plants. The second generation Lead Cobalt Battery will be made with Lead-Foam grids which weigh 16% of traditional lead grids. It is being designed expressly for electric vehicles and will compete with Lithium-Ion Batteries used by several electric car manufacturers. The heart of the Apollo Power Plant is the Alkaline Fuel Cell (AFC). The AFC operates on hydrogen. One of the best sources of Hydrogen is Ammonia (NH3). Ammonia is fed into an Ammonia Cracker which produces hydrogen for the Fuel Cell. Apollo has a patent on an Ammonia Cracker, filed in the USA and China. Lead Cobalt Batteries and AFCs can be installed in electric cars for greater range. A 30-kW AFC and a 42/kWh Lead Cobalt Battery installed in a Silver Volt Electric Car could give the car a range of 480 miles. Ammonia, stored in a fuel tank, could be replaced in 5 minutes after a 480 mile trip. Apollo Lead Cobalt Batteries are protected by patents issued in the USA and China, and will set the standard within the battery markets. They have a higher energy density than other Lead Acid Batteries, have a Tri-Polar construction with two current collecting bus bars at the top of the cells connecting the positive and negative plates (as in all batteries) and four current collecting bus bars at the bottom of the cells (not in other batteries) which results in additional current paths through the cells, and prevents vibration and stratification of electrolyte. Cobalt is also added to the cells which protect the positive plate from oxidation when the batteries are being charged. These batteries can be fast charged at high currents and exhibit a much flatter discharge curve at high discharge rates than other lead acid batteries. The result is superior performance in all battery applications. The batteries give excellent performance in electric cars and golf carts. They will also give excellent performance in fork lift trucks, mine locomotives, airport tugs, floor sweepers and scrubbers, boats, ships and aircraft. Apollo Alkaline Fuel Cells (AFCs) are much more efficient and less costly than other fuel cells which are called “Phosphoric Acid”, “Proton Exchange Membrane”, “Liquid Molten Carbonate” and “Solid Oxide”. Based on the firm’s knowledge, no company in the USA is producing AFCs. The combination of our ‘Apollo Lead Cobalt Battery’ and ‘Apollo Alkaline Fuel Cell’ will provide a Propulsion System for an electric vehicle which will enable that car to drive continuously, like a gasoline powered car, without external recharging (not necessary to “plug-in” to an outside receptacle); and will provide a Power Plant System to give electricity to a home, farm, hotel, cell towers or commercial establishment without use of the outside grid supplied by electric utility companies. New Developments Apollo has secured a patent which covers Lead Foam Battery Plates. Lead Foam is a very light-weight material (much lighter than solid lead) that greatly reduces the weight of the battery and increases its energy density. Once Apollo’s new batteries are in production with Lead Foam Battery Plates, it is possible that the new batteries will be able to compete with Lithium-based batteries now being used in electric cars. Apollo has samples of the Lead Foam Substrate and can demonstrate its usage at its facility in Pompano Beach, Florida. Apollo also has two new products, a “MARS V”, 4-passenger pure electric car produced for Apollo in China which will be equipped with Lead Cobalt Batteries, and an Emergency Power Backup Unit for installation in homes, condominiums, airports, restaurants and other similar establishments which will give up to 96-hours of backup power in case of outside grid failure due to hurricanes and storms. This Unit is battery operated and contains a built-in charger for recharging the batteries when outside power is restored. It is listed by Underwriters Laboratories. Apollo’s technology on Fuel Cells, Batteries, Ammonia Crackers and Electric Vehicle is backed up by 193 patents. Three of them have been issued this year by the U.S. Patent Office. The fourth has been approved and will be issued in about two months. • U.S. Patent Number 6,936,363 B2 Ammonia Cracker • U.S. Patent Number 7,037,620 B2 Multi-Cellular Electrical Battery with Lead Foam Grids • U.S. Patent Number 7,014,944 B2 Alkaline Fuel Cell • U.S. Patent Number 7,128,990 B2 Regenerate Fuel Cell Stacks Apollo has substantial orders for these new systems and is presently equipping two factory buildings for production this year in Pompano Beach, Florida.
