MassPay’s ASO services provides businesses with the underlying HR/Payroll infrastructure via iSolved, and offers expert guidance on HR/ Payroll issues. CEO Jason Maxwell comments further on the services the firm offers to clients. “We help businesses develop strategies for recruiting top talent, evaluate and develop company policies, create/update employee handbooks, review job descriptions, ensure compliance with wage and hour and other laws, and implement best practices for hiring, on-boarding, training and performance,” he begins. “Our ASO services also include extensive training and coaching for business owners and their managers, so that businesses can lower turnover, improve productivity and foster greater employee engagement to be successful.” Jason Maxwell is not just the CEO of MassPay, but also the founder of the company. After working for two Fortune 500 Payroll companies, Jason realized that what was lacking in the payroll industry was true client focus. He founded MassPay in 2004 from humble beginnings, with just two people working in the attic of a house in Lowell, Massachusetts, with the aim of offering small business owners an alternative to the large, multi-national payroll companies. Since then, Jason has led MassPay’s exponential growth. In 2013/2014, Jason charted the next era for MassPay. He invested heavily in hiring additional staff, started an ASO Division for companies with little/no HR staff and committed the company to offering a full scale HCM (Human Capital Management) solution, called iSolved, to go beyond Payroll and meet the human resource and compliance needs of larger employers. “My vision for MassPay is to focus on building HR & Payroll process efficiencies for its clients, helping them become successful, keeping them in compliance with all federal/state/local labor laws, and providing a more personal client experience,” states Jason. “I manage an executive team that emphasize this vision, and demonstrates our core values, on a daily basis.” For more than a decade, MassPay has developed a reputation for integrity and personal service to clients on the North Shore, as well as those within Massachusetts and across the country. It’s not all been plain sailing for Jason and his team however, and he touches upon the challenges he has had to face throughout his career and how this has impacted on how he runs the company. “Some of the biggest challenges we faced were the financial challenges of bootstrapping a business, seeking a buyout of an original business partner, pivoting our business model due to changing technology, and relocating the business five times within a ten year span to accommodate our growth. “One of the biggest challenges we faced was in 2010, when we changed our business model. We made the decision to make the necessary investments and internal changes to evolve from a payroll-centric business to a full-fledged HR Outsourcing and HCM Technology (aka HRIS / HRMS) company. This decision was made due to a shifting trend towards cloud-based HR/Payroll technology by small to mid-sized businesses, and an increasing demand for expert HR services to help businesses understand and comply with new legislative requirements.” Jason strongly believes that it’s not just business at MassPay, it’s also about serving the community, and one of his core beliefs is that the company has a responsibility to serve the communities in which he lives and works. “ We support many non-profit organizations that are doing great things to support our society,” he enthuses. “We have also created our own organized movement for the purpose of saving lives in the fight against cancer. Every member of the MassPay team has been individually challenged by cancer. We host fundraisers to support cancer research and prevention efforts. These efforts provide an outlet for local families and businesses to fight back against cancer.” With regards to the future, Jason has a clear vision of where he, and the firm, will be ion five years’ time. “MassPay will grow our recurring revenue base by more than 150%. We will expand geographically into at least three new markets in the Northeast and Midwest. We will expand our service offerings to offer more software and technology solutions to help companies attract, maximize and manage their talent.” 1702CA19
